About Laura

Laura Rotelli is a ceramic artist based in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. Working primarily in cone 6 porcelain, she creates functional and sculptural pieces inspired by ocean life and humanity’s relationship with the sea. Her work features intricate illustrations painted in underglaze, drawing on historical maritime imagery and early American folk art. Her sculptural whales bear the names of historical figures from the American whaling industry, with surfaces that explore maritime stories and motifs.

Rotelli began drawing as a young child and pursued private oil painting lessons and the Rhode Island School of Design’s Young Artists summer programs. After a career in marketing and communications, she returned to ceramics through classes at South County Art Association. In 2020, she established her own studio, where she now maintains a full-time ceramic practice.

Her work has been exhibited at South County Art Association’s gallery, where she has received three Best in Show awards, and in the 42nd Schaefer International Marine Art Exhibit in Newport, Rhode Island, in October 2025.
